Toyoda, Hikaru [Konoha Chuunin] DSC02083

Dr. Hiraku 'Faust' Toyoda.

THE INFO.

Name: Toyoda, Hiraku
Nickname:
    Faust, Dr. Faust
Faust never uses and strongly disapproves of others using his real name, with the sole exception of the Hokage. This is due to the belief that an alias separates him from the World (especially the Shinobi World) and makes him an intelligent independent entity among a sea of faceless, thoughtless minions of the Shinobi caste. It is also used for practical purposes, as the alias protects his family from the repercussions of his actions.

    Konoha's Top Scientist
A title as much as a profession, Faust is recognised, although primarily, recognises himself as the ultimate authority on matters of science and, also, medicine. Although it's rare for anyone to refer to him by this 'exact' title, it's common for others to call him 'the Scientist'; 'Mad' serves as a common, unofficial prefix, which Faust doesn't approve of as he knows himself to be fully sane.

Age: 23
Gender: Male
Appearance:
The Doctor has a fairly average build. Despite his self-claimed position of Konoha's Top Scientist, he is of an unremarkable height, standing at but a mere 5'10 feet. At the same time, he has an exceptionally low body mass (142 pounds), made to appear further diminished by its excellent disposition - Faust comes off as a very thin, athletically-built figure. Despite his academic drive, Faust sports a significantly muscular form, that boasts speed and agility as expected of a man skilled in Medical Ninjutsu. Due to an overly high metabolism, Faust eats more than his peers, but then never appears to gain weight, thus becoming stuck in what is a borderline-anorexic, yet curiously strong state. Faust is of a white, pale tone, symbolic to his unwillingness to leave his 'laboratory'. His skin has few remarkable features, being standard as far as standard goes. Its only blemish is in the form of a number of scars, present - varying in size. Most have been gained as a result of experiments going wrong, but also sometimes, going right.

Faust portrays a scruffy-looking individual, his face at almost times, adorned by facial hair that grows to varying lengths, although never to the extent as to become and be deemed a full-fledged 'beard'. It appears that as soon as a beard would form, is when the Doctor finally finds the time to shave. Faust has a peculiarly striking face, that ambiguously sits somewhere between being 'attractive' and not. Fundamentally, the Scientist gives off an aura of arrogance, his smiles wicked in their length and at most times, particularly provoking. He is known to lecture and believes himself to be right at all times - is right almost without fail. This, paralleled with his cold, mysterious eyes, thin, daunting eyebrows and a sharp, powerful jawline make him frustrating to be around with. Although providing little comfort, many find his eye and hair colour to be a faint attempt at comical relief, especially when in face of the particularly driven, ranting Scientist. Coloured green with the slightest of blue tints, Faust's hair does well to betray him as an unruly, appearance-oblivious person. The spiked mess collaborates with the black glasses found on Faust's nose, to make him appear bizarre to others; at the same time, it satisfies the need for him to match a universal stereotype. Through the thick spectacles, one can find unnervingly open, emerald eyes, apparently unafraid, staring ahead without a care for the word around them. They too, like his chaotic mane, give away plenty about his persona.

The Scientist, as is expected of men of his position, wears a stereotypical assortment of clothing. Usually adorned by a lab coat, Faust is prone to wearing shirts, ties and trousers of formal qualities. It is rare for the man to acknowledge his Shinobi status, refusing the comfort of a Chuunin Vest; his service to the village is displayed by the presence of the Leaf Symbol on his belt buckle. This is probably done more so for the diplomatic immunity it grants, rather than an actual sense of loyalty. Not wearing a Vest has been compensated in more ways than one, as is expected of a scientist.

Forehead Protector: Insignia of the Leaf Village on the belt buckle.

Personality:
Although it would be wrong to think of Faust as evil, from many perspectives, that would be a justifiable and 'correct' analysis of his persona. As a scientist, and a particularly driven one at that, the Doctor has adapted an extremely cold, oblivious persona, interested only in knowledge, research and doing his utmost best to further the cause of science. In that sense, Faust has a very 'the end justifies the means' ideology; although he ultimately strives for greater 'good', his way of getting there is, arguably, wrong and ruthless. Because of this ideology, Faust is seen as having very few qualms about such extremes as, for example, using or even killing others, as long as it results in achieving useful knowledge or in some other way, gaining. Thus, the Scientist is often seen as occupying but also frequently straying from a moral grey. It's difficult to sum the Doctor up as self-centered, since at the core of his actions, lays the fundament concept that his actions are for the benefit of everyone. Yet outside of science, it is rare for him to stray outside of his moral grey and, act human. Ultimately, most emotions are shunned and helping others, as is expected of him, won't be done unless providing help will result in his gain.

Faust is not particularly loyal to Konoha, nor has he an interest in politics in general; Konoha merely serves as a hub of operation, although his research is at all times, for the benefit of the village, even if Faust will never say this to be the case. Still, he believes himself to be a separate entity in regards to Shinobi, even if he is considered one and is also ranked and judged through the hierarchy of the Shinobi system. For that reason, his sense of respect is at all times lax, with the single exception of the Hokage, whose approval is necessary for Faust's operation to continue. It is therefore through the Hokage solely, that Faust operates as a standard shinobi operative, even if sparingly and grudgingly. Due to his medical expertise, the Doctor has come to show his presence frequently in the local Hospital, granting him a more favourable opinion from his brothers in arms. In truth however, the Hospital merely serves to further Faust's medical knowledge, whether through autopsies, dissections, simple afflictions, or breaking down complex illnesses to the tee. Through these 'exercises', his peers have found him to be a very diligent and intelligent individual; although Faust is particular about not being compassionate, the grueling and at times, exhausting work has revealed some cracks in his apparent, cold-hearted personality. Perhaps all is not lost.

The Doctor is said to be lacking in social skills and is seen as generally unsociable. However both result in his wish to be solely dedicated to science; in the prior case, Faust is very capable of speaking, speaking out or speaking for, when it is required of or beneficial for him to do so. He's known to be opinionated, stubborn and crafty with his words - a silver-tongue in his own right. It is however the second assumption, that makes his skillful way with words blurry and forgettable. It's because Faust is often-case uninterested in others and what they have to say, that makes him out to be unsociable and nonexistent on the social scene. Likewise, he has no real drive to meet others or acquaint himself with anyone in particular, there being only very few exceptions to the rule. Perhaps deep on the inside, a part of Faust has some wish for a normal life, yet his hunger for knowledge dominates and pushes away any such sentimental whims.

Although Faust has been accused of 'madness' and a dual, if not a generally split and multiple, personality, neither rumour appears very much true. It's arguable that his ideology and passion for science earns him the title of 'mad', yet the Doctor understands himself to be merely (if not overly) enthusiastic; no other 'persona' has shown itself up to date. Frequent experimenting does however poise a danger, and it's unknown if any such 'psychological' effect has taken root in Faust.

THE NINJA.

Specialties: Medical Ninjutsu, Weaponry [Exotic, Polearms]
Elemental Affinities: Raiton, Fuuton

Combat Style:
Although a Shinobi, Faust is seen to act a pacifist when it suits him, which is almost always. This is due to the mentality, that any fight is time lost as far as science is concerned. This ideology changes drastically however, when a 'subject' is introduced into the equation. It's common for Faust to dissect dead shinobi, yet the idea of experimenting on an alive one is quite a powerful motivation; this varies with how unique an individual is. Usually, Shinobi gifted with Kekkei Genkai serve as prey that can't be squandered once in Faust's sights; arguably, the better the prey, the harder the Doctor seeks to capture it. Indeed, capture is always preferable over death. However just being a Shinobi is usually not enough to shift the Scientist's mentality.

Faust's combat style focuses on a mixture of Weaponry and Medical Ninjutsu. His primary weapon is his cane, armed with an extendable blade on its end, which is often poisoned as to drug and render a 'subject' docile. Whilst poison does serve as a common weapon in Faust's arsenal, he's also known to use unconditional weaponry - exotic, self-invented and thus experimental pieces of weaponry. Although these don't always work properly and have a tendency to backfire, the element of surprise and fighting the unknown often works favourably in any fight, whether against an experienced or inexperienced fighter. In fact, unconditional weapons often trick veterans more so than young'uns, as those who have seen everything, cannot comprehend and do poorly when facing something new.

THE BACKGROUND.

History:

Faust was a mere baby of a few weeks, when his parents escaped the Water Country, chased by men clearly intent on killing off the Toyoda family. It is true that although Hiraku was born among the people of Kirigakure, he couldn't possibly have a recollection of such and his parents would not tell him of this for many years to come. Even till this day, Faust has never been certain about what events had led to his family leaving their place of origin behind. His deep-rooted belief was that he belonged to Konoha, and initially, was confused to find out about his heritage and his parents' past. In the end he came to the conclusion that having lived all his life among the people of the leaf, he couldn't possibly consider himself an outsider; he belonged and his birth place could do little to change that. With that ideology in mind, till this day, Faust has been working for the benefit of Konoha and has never considered Mizu no Kuni his home, despite accusations of being a spy or an enemy. Should a decision between the two come, the choice was clear to him, even if Faust has few corresponding traits to that of a Leaf Patriot.

Ever since his childhood, Faust was always a peculiar individual. He stood out like a sore thumb, never quite interested in what others of his age did, disliked or enjoyed. Hiraku would be the one to examine rocks or try his best to catch insects or butterflies. He had a particularly strong interest in animals; he was one to befriend stray dogs and take in lost cats. He even claimed to be able to communicate with them. What had often alienated others, was his keen intellect. Faust was, undoubtedly, a bookworm and yet had an exceptional talent in applying the knowledge learnt through mere pages, in real life situations. He was known to learn at exceptional rates, never making the same mistake again; it was rumoured that he had a photographic memory. Whilst it is a rare and useful phenomenon, his peers considered him to be 'cheating'; his teachers, who Faust had a terrible tendency of trying to outsmart, also felt no particular likeness for the little prodigy.

Faust quickly arose to the rank of Genin. By that point, his personality had sharpened and he achieved an individualistic, unusual attitude to him, that made any team work a pain. He became especially interested in Medical Ninjutsu, as his father was a medic himself, and found tinkering with weapons to be his ultimate muse. At both, he was efficient and skillful; his skill was recongised and gave him a very unusual arsenal, that did not go unnoticed. As it was an unconventional skillet, Konoha had a particular interest in Faust, who used it to his advantage. He declared himself a 'scientist' and with a little persuasion, had himself a place he dubbed a 'lab' that grew exponentially as he himself grew older, experienced and stronger.

Eventually, Faust claimed the rank of Chuunin, even though his interest in the World of Shinobi had lessened over the years of spending his time dedicated to 'science'. Still, since it offered him valuable privileges and more freedom, Hiraku couldn't pass up the opportunity; it also meant that he was finally legally free of his Sensei. Thus, 'freed' he attached himself to the Hospital, and whilst he worked there to satisfy his requirement of acting as a Shinobi, in his free time and during moments of solitude, young Faust returned to his lab where he would study and experiment.

Till this day, such had been the life of Faust. Things appear to be changing however.
