Board Issue

Sooooo... Why can't I see any topics other than the ones posted in my affiliated village? If it's just me, I'd like to know how to fix it. If not, and it's supposed to be like that, why exactly? I like broadening my horizons when it comes to reading stuff. And I can't think of any reason why we shouldn't be allowed to do read other village topics... ._.

The villages are indeed hidden from "enemy eyes". Apparently, it's because they're "Hidden Villages", and therefore should only be visible to their group members.

At least, that's what I think the reason is. I can't remember if that's for certain.

I can understand the reasoning behind this, but I really think all members should be allowed to view all villages. It broadens our horizons based on what roleplays we can read, and also what if there's a TOTM and we can't view it because it's not in our village?

Maybe so, but the pros outweigh the cons. It prevents us from reading roleplays from other villages, which hinders village alliances.

I'm fine with not seeing other villages. I like not being able to see since they are infact 'hidden' So... Yeah.

Not in the slightest. Village alliances are usually conversed over via OOC means, whilst important village interactions can be done through the external section of the villages. Village Alliances don't exist here either. Razz

If they did, the Kages would be the ones invovled.

On this issue I would have to agree with Megan. The reasoning behind this is silly at best. I understand the idea, that each hidden village should theoretically keep its secrets, such as the goings on of its denizens, to itself. But this is an IC reason. OOC it is nothing but harmful. The only argument I can see for it is to keep certain things a secret. Sure if the boards are open to the public then it is possible for other users to become aware of certain plots that their characters shouldn't know, but acting on this knowledge IC is metagaming and illegal anyway. The only thing this is preventing are things that were already prevented by the base rules of the site. Other than that, all these things serve to do is hinder the amount of content one is capable of viewing. What if someone from a different village wants to read what their friend is posting? What if someone from a different village is a particular inspiration for one's writing and they want to read their work? All impossible.

And Drake, just go back to being a lonely Nukenin. You're not allowed to have friends!

I'd be inclined to open up all the villages with the exception of maybe the Administration Buildings, but that's seriously like a WHOLE day of going through boards permissions and ticking lots of boxes.

I don't mean to be a pain in the ass or anything, just couldn't comprehend any good reasoning behind it. And honestly, pretty sure it doesn't take that long - I've had to do it myself before on other boards. But yeah, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just dropping in this hurr thread to say that I'm in support of how we currently have the villages set up, only being able to see your affiliated village. Though some of you may see it as silly by keeping these villages hidden, I view it as the opposite of being silly. I see these mysterious hidden villages as a way to create possibly personal, group or village wide plots, as an example, you could be gathering intel and information on foreign villages, through means such as infiltration or maybe even having a village spy, then this intel or infiltration would ultimately lead upto something big, who knows what.... Plus it actually keeps these hidden villages actually hidden. Now if I may remind you all that we actually have ways of allowing people to view other village boards. We created Visitor groups some time ago to allow Genin, Chuunin, Jounin and even Nukenin access to foreign villages, though obviously we only allow members to go into these groups if they've actually got into the village through IC means. Now I understand that some of you still don't like the idea of having to go through all of this in an IC way, but hey, it's a roleplay forum.
