No longer having his heavy and fragile backpack on his back, but rather a light one filled with trivial items such as food and bubblewrap- Akimaru decided to take a different route back to Konoha. At the southern entrance to Konoha there was a small stream, one that carries all the way to Takigakure, either by estruaries, conjuctions and other terminology. Deciding to make a change, Akimaru decided to take the aquatic route home. Akimaru didn't mind water. In fact, he felt more confident around it. He had good chakra control, so he had no worries of him falling in. He also had the ability to manipulate water with his chakra at will, being sution natured. The day was coming to a close, and the sky was just as abysmal as it had been that morning. The only real problem was Akimaru was getting cold. He wanted to get home as quickly as possible, and fall into his nice warm bed.
Taking his first step on to the water, Akimaru never got over just how weird it felt. It was like he knew his foot should be wet and sinking, but it wasn't. As if his eyes were betraying him, or as if he were experiencing some sort of genjutsu but did not care to release himself. Shivering slightly, Akimaru took off. He found it a little harder to concentrate his chakra whilst running across the water, but he felt he could handle it. Akimaru wouldn't be doing this otherwise. He didn't often take stupid risks, since his failure in doing so during his last mission. Shaking the thought from his head, Akimaru continued. The water was splashing behind him, but he was not yet wet. Looking around him, Akimaru saw that the stream seemed to always stay adjacent to the road, no matter where it took him. He saw fish swimming merrily below him, then darting away when he approached. He saw lilypads and algae in the corners of the stream, near the bank usually. He saw birds nesting in the trees to his left, getting ready to nest for the night. Akimaru was at one with nature, and due to his Kiyo heritage, he was loving it.
Once he got used to the running on water, and he felt he had had enough sightseeing for the evening, and just wanted to get home, Akimaru picked up his speed and allowed his mind to wander. He began thinking about if the vials had been distributed around the Waterfall Country. There had only been about five medium-sized vials in his backpack, he just hoped it was enough to cure as many people as possible. As he thought about that, the infected boy popped into his mind. His flaking, purple tinted skin. The colour fading from his bloodshot eyes. Flecks of blood dripping out of his mouth, and his mucus seemed to be green. Upon memory, Akimaru took in a lot more than he had upon the split-second he had share with the boy. The thought made him want to be violently sick, so he decided to think about something else. Beyond his control, Lilium popped into his head for the second time on the mission. His stomach immediately stopped bashing around and purred.
He noticed that the stream was narrowing at that his journey was coming to a close. All too soon, the stream narrowed to a few inches wide, and in to Konoha's sewage system. Jumping off from the water onto the land, Akimaru's feet felt weary. He walked through the gate of his home village, and began straight towards his house. He was back at the Kiyo headquarters in minutes, and walked wearily into his house. He flipped his sandals off, and his back down beside them, sitting down at the table with his family. |
